Support of medical physics events, Accreditation, IDMP

Dear colleagues,

I would like to start this message by focusing on IOMP’s activities related to medical physics education and training and their broader impact on healthcare worldwide. By endorsing and sponsoring education and training events of its national member organizations, IOMP facilitates the sharing of high quality knowledge. Medical physicists, trained and updated through these initiatives, contribute significantly to ensuring that patients receive accurate and safe treatments. Furthermore, by participating in educational events, IOMP actively engages with medical physicists. This interaction not only offers colleagues a chance to learn from experienced professionals but also inspires and encourages students to pursue careers in medical physics. During the last weeks, the IOMP endorsed the 2nd Colombian Congress of Medical Physics https://www.acofimed.com/educacion/congresos-y-eventos-cientificos/ which will be organized on the 3rd and 4th of November, 2023 in Bucaramanga, Colombia. Also, the Jamaican Association of Physicists in Medicine (JAPM) is organizing a conference of participants from the Caribbean region in collaboration with the IAEA, November 13-17, in Jamaica. This is the first JAPM public meeting and IOMP will participate actively. Specifically, Prof. Eva Bezak will be representing IOMP at the JAMP Conference, delivering an online talk to extend greetings and provide an overview of the IOMP activities. I wish both events to be very successful.

IOMP’s accreditation of education and training events serves as a hallmark of quality https://www.newrevamp.iomp.org/accreditation/  By setting its standards, IOMP ensures that the events meet the highest educational benchmarks. For both individuals and institutions, accreditation from IOMP enhances credibility. Professionals who have attended accredited events can demonstrate a certain level of expertise and knowledge. Similarly, institutions that host accredited programs gain recognition for their commitment to excellence. IOMP accreditation board received an application from JAMP for CPD accreditation for the conference on   ‘Quality Assurance in Radiation Medicine for Sustainable Healthcare’. The IOMP Executive Committee (ExCom) approved the recommendation of the Accreditation Board for 22 CPD points for the program. Moreover, ExCom approved the Accreditation Board’s recommendation for 16 CPD points for the South Asia Centre for Medical Physics and Cancer Research (SCMPCR) e-learning Program ‘Radiation Dosimetry: External Beam Radiotherapy and Brachytherapy’ that will be organized from November 3 to November 24, 2023.

As most of you probably know, the International Day of Medical Physics (IDMP), celebrated annually on November 7th, serves as a momentous occasion to recognize and honor the essential role medical physicists play in healthcare https://www.newrevamp.iomp.org/idmp-2023/ On this day, the global community comes together to raise awareness about the significance of medical physics in healthcare and to appreciate the dedication and innovation demonstrated by medical physicists every day. The IOMP organizes a webinar titled ‘The 60th Anniversary of IOMP – Personal Memories and Some Thoughts on the Future of Medical Physics’. Speakers: Azam Niroomand-Rad, Colin G. Orton, Fridtjof Nüsslin https://newrevamp.www.iomp.org/iomp-school-webinars-2023/ Throughout the years, the exceptional contributions and leadership of the speakers have left an indelible mark on the field of Medical Physics. This is a special online event that will also mark a momentous occasion – the 60th anniversary of the IOMP.
